La Ganesan, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and the 19th Governor of Nagaland, passed away today (15 August 2025) evening in Chennai at the age of 80. He succumbed to complications from a head injury sustained after a fall at his residence.
A few days before his passing, Ganesan fell at his Chennai home and suffered a head injury. He was rushed to Apollo Hospital, where he underwent treatment in the Intensive Care Unit. Despite medical efforts, he passed away at approximately 6:26 PM without any significant improvement in his condition.
La Ganesan was born on February 16, 1945, in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. After the premature passing of his father, he joined the Revenue Department as a Settlement Inspector. However, driven by his dedication to the nation, he resigned to become a full-time RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) pracharak.
He played an active role during the Emergency of 1975, organizing movements to uphold democracy in Tamil Nadu. Ganesan later held several key positions within the BJP, including National Secretary, Vice President, Tamil Nadu State President, and was a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Madhya Pradesh from 2016 to 2018.
His gubernatorial career included serving as the Governor of Manipur (August 2021–February 2023), additional charge as West Bengal’s Governor (July–November 2022), followed by his appointment as the Governor of Nagaland in February 2023.
