Erode East Bypoll: DMK MLA Indirectly Asks People If They Received Money

A video of a ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MLA has emerged, in which the MLA is seen indirectly asking the people if they have received the money in exchange for their votes. As Tamil Nadu prepares for the Erode East by-poll, this video of a DMK MLA has sparked a massive controversy.

In the video, DMK MLA Udhayasuriyan of the Sankarapuram assembly constituency is campaigning for the Erode by-elections and can be seen on a mic asking locals if they have received money or not. The DMK MLA then asked if they were satisfied and assured them that they would return after the elections. People can be heard clapping and cheering.

In the viral video, DMK MLA Udhayasuriyan is seen asking the people, “Did our men (DMK party cadres) meet you in the last two days? Are you all happy?” The crowd cheers, “Yes.”

He went on to say, “They may have given you something to meet you the next day after the election. Did they give you(money)?” The crowd cheers and says yes once more.

This video of a DMK MLA publicly asking if they had received money has sparked outrage. The Erode East byelection will be held on February 27, with voting on March 2. Today, at 5 p.m., the election campaign will come to an end. Ever since the election was announced, the ruling DMK government has been accused of spending money, giving free gift hampers, smart watches, silver lamps, confining voters to camps and not allowing the opposition to meet them, and other electoral malpractices. It is reported that the cost of votes in the Erode East has gone up to ₹8000 per vote.
