EPS urges TN Govt to take action on doctors and nurses who snatched away ventilator and oxygen from COVID patient

Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami has condemned the action of the doctors and nurses who had snatched the ventilator machine and oxygen from a corona patient in Cuddalore government hospital.

According to a statement issued by Palaniswami, Raja (49), son of Kannan Mudaliar, a resident of Nadu Veedhi, Tittakkudi Municipality, Cuddalore District, was admitted to Cuddalore Government General Hospital on the 8th of this month with symptoms like shortness of breath due to a corona virus infection. He was being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Cuddalore Government Hospital.

At about 9 AM yesterday, when the patient was having breakfast, the doctor and nurses on duty arrived and tried to take away his ventilator machine and oxygen. The patient’s wife had complained‌ and tried to stop them. But the doctors and nurses reportedly pushed her down and took away the machine and oxygen. The patient died as the wailing wife was trying to save him. A video of this incident had been doing the rounds on social media.

In light of this, Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami has condemned the incident and has urged the state government to book the culprits under appropriate criminal sections of the Indian Penal Code. He has also asked the government to give solatium to the bereaved family.

Health Minister Ma. Subramanian has said that he has ordered for an inquiry into the matter.
