As the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has started to deploy more troops and heavy weaponry in Eastern Ladakh, the Indian Army as per a report published in India Today has been testing its eight-wheeled armoured personnel carrier for infantry troops.
The formal trial has been going on at Leh which makes it a effective proving ground because of the cold and high-altitude.
Once the winter trials are over it will prove to be a efficient mode of transporting for our troops for swift movement to occupy strategic heights.
Perhaps the most gruelling part of the test will be when the vehicle will undergo tests at Depsang to assess the engine and functioning systems of the artillery.
This Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) will give out infantry support during combat operations as this wheeled vehicles can move quicker, swifter, amphibious, and light enough to be airlifted to any theatre in the high altitude and mountainous region of Line of Actual Control (LAC) in several vital points.
India Today also reported that these vehicles could be posted at the Pangong Tso lake, Chumar and Daulat Beg Oldi to strengthen the armed forces. This APC is designed by the DRDO, as the government has laid stress on Atmanirbhar Bharat to become self-reliant in the defence sector.
