Tamil Nadu Police has arrested Pavithran, the creator behind the popular YouTube channel “Hindu News,” on 5 March 2026, in a move that has sparked sharp criticism from pro-Hindu and opposition circles who allege the arrest was politically motivated by the ruling DMK government.
Tamil Janam confirmed the arrest on 5 March 2026. Pavithran’s channel was known for publishing content supporting Hindu causes, Tamil culture, and national interests while being sharply critical of the DMK-led state government. The arrest was widely circulated on X, Facebook, and Instagram within hours.

Social media reports indicate that Pavithran was booked under provisions related to promoting religious extremism or communal incitement through his online content. However, the exact IPC/BNS sections listed in the FIR and the identity of the complainant have not been independently verified as of the time of writing.
