Woman Drugged And Gang-Raped In Vellore, BJP TN Slam Dravidian Model

A disturbing gang rape incident has shaken the community in Vellore. A 30-year-old woman from Chinnakanjeepuram in Vellore district sold her land to invest in chits worth ₹15 lakh from Altaf Das, who runs a chit agency near Cheyyar in the Tiruvannamalai district. In addition, she and her associates invested a total of ₹1.75 crore in chits through the same agency.

Altaf Das’s company initially disbursed ₹40 lakh to the individuals the woman had referred. However, when they demanded the remaining amount, Altaf allegedly refused to pay. Persistent in her efforts to recover the money, the woman repeatedly approached Altaf, who eventually instructed her to come to Vellore to collect the funds. Upon her arrival, he claimed that handing over such a large sum in public could cause complications and suggested she meet him at a hostel instead.

Trusting his words, the woman, accompanied by her mother, went to the hostel. There, a group of five individuals threatened her, warning that they would kill her if she continued to demand the money and categorically stated that the payment will not be made. During this confrontation, the woman’s mother was forcibly taken to another location. Allegedly, Altaf Das, along with Mahesh and Rajkumar, drugged the young woman by lacing her soft drink with drugs and then gang-raped her. After the assault, they informed her that they had recorded a video of the act and threatened to release it online if she reported the incident to anyone.

The victim filed a formal complaint with the Vellore District Superintendent of Police last month, urging action against the perpetrators. In response, the police have registered a case against six individuals, including three women, and are conducting an investigation into the matter.

This latest comes against the backdrop of four men being recently sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by the Mahila Court for allegedly abducting a doctor in an auto and gang-raping her in Katpadi in 2022.

Of late, there has been increasing crime against women in the Dravidian Model Tamil Nadu. Opposition leaders from the BJP and AIADMK have slammed the DMK for its failure to effectively implement law and order in the state.

BJP leader H. Raja called the recent Vellore gang-rape horror as another achievement of Dravidian Model.
