A young man was brutally attacked with a machete by two men on AL Mudaliar Street in Nehru Nagar, Velachery, Chennai, triggering panic among local residents.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim was walking along the street when the attackers assaulted him with a machete. After being struck, the injured man fell to the ground and attempted to shield himself with his hands, but the assailants continued to hack at him repeatedly. Alarmed by the violence, members of the public intervened by pelting stones and footwear at the attackers, forcing them to flee and preventing further injury to the victim.

Following the incident, residents informed the Velachery police station. Acting on the information, police personnel reached the spot, rescued the severely injured man, and sent him to a hospital for treatment.

Preliminary information indicates that the injured man has been identified as Parthiban. It is also reported that the two attackers were intoxicated at the time of the assault. Police are investigating the identity of the attackers and the motive behind the attack.

BJP leader Annamalai shared the gruesome video of the attack and stated that the gang assaulted the victim with weapons and attempted to inflict severe injuries. Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed out, raised an alarm, and intervened, forcing the attackers to flee the spot. Their timely intervention is believed to have prevented further harm to the victim.

This comes in the backdrop of the assault on the migrant worker by ganja-addicted school dropouts in Tiruttani and several other instances reported in Tamil Nadu over the past couple of months.
