Thiruparankundram Hill, a site of immense religious and historical significance, has become a focal point of controversy and sacrilege.
Islamist groups have been demanding to perform ‘qurbani’ – the ritual sacrifice of goats and roosters – at the dargah located on the temple hill, when the entire hill belongs to the Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple.
Manapparai DMK MLA Abdul Samad has been accused of illegally conducting a survey around the temple and conspiring to take control of the hill with the help of SDPI (the political arm of the banned terror outfit Popular Front of India).
Further exacerbating the situation, ‘unidentified miscreants’ have defaced the ancient Jain caves on the hill by painting them green, an act seen as deliberate vandalism against a heritage site of immense cultural and spiritual value. These incidents have sparked strong condemnation from various quarters, highlighting the need to protect the sanctity and heritage of this sacred hill.
Adding fuel to the fire, DMK-ally IUML MP Navas Kani who is also the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board went with his supporters who had non-vegetarian biryani at the foothill of the temple hill drawing widespread outrage for violating the sanctity of the site. In a video that was shared on social media, he can be seen intimidating police officials to allow them to have the non-vegetarian biryani that they have brought with them.
