Chennai International Airport has courted controversy after display screens inside its Terminal 2 international departure hub were found broadcasting Tamil television mega serials, raising serious questions about the priorities and neutrality of public infrastructure under the DMK regime.
The issue came to light after stand-up comedian Ashwin Srinivass shared a video on social media documenting the scenes from inside the airport. In the video, Srinivass remarked:
“I’ve been to a lot of international airports across the world, but Chennai International Airport is such a vibe. It’s so intense.”

The visuals he shared showed that in waiting areas long-running Tamil TV serials were being aired on large digital screens meant for public information and passenger engagement.
The content being screened appeared to be from Sun TV – the mouthpiece of the DMK first family.
International airport terminals typically showcase travel advisories, cultural documentaries, tourism promotions, or global programming curated for diverse international audiences. The screening of melodramatic television serials in such a space has triggered ridicule online, with many questioning whether Chennai’s global gateway was being reduced to a television living room.
