4-Month-Old Dies After Alleged Injection Mix-Up In Omandurar Govt Hospital; Police Accused Of Assaulting Protesting Family

A four-month-old baby girl died at the Omandurar Government Hospital after being admitted for a cough and cold, with the family alleging serious medical negligence and procedural lapses by hospital staff.

According to the complaint, the infant was undergoing treatment for mild respiratory symptoms when a critical error allegedly occurred. Family members stated that two patients with similar names were admitted at the same time, leading to confusion. An injection intended for an older child was allegedly administered to the four-month-old infant, following which the baby’s condition deteriorated.

Relatives further alleged that hospital authorities did not inform them about the treatment procedures being carried out. They claimed that invasive medical intervention was performed without parental consent or explanation, and that they were asked to remain outside despite repeatedly seeking updates on the child’s condition. The baby later died after her breathing complications worsened.

The incident triggered protests outside the hospital, with family members and supporters demanding action against the medical staff involved. The situation escalated when police attempted to detain protesters, leading to a scuffle between the two sides.

During the confrontation, relatives alleged that police personnel used excessive force, including physical assault and manhandling of those gathered, including women. Concerns were also raised over the manner in which an advocate who had arrived to represent the family was detained and handled during the protest.

The family has demanded a formal investigation, accountability from the hospital administration, and legal action against those responsible for the alleged negligence. The incident has intensified scrutiny over patient safety protocols and emergency response procedures in government hospitals.
