DMK’s Thousand Lights constituency candidate Ezhilan Naganathan peddled lies during his campaign speech in the Ilango Salai locality. He pushed the Dravidianist north-south divide and lies about the delimitation.
Addressing the gathering he said, “Dear people gathered here at 118, Ilango Salai, along with our area secretary brother MP Anbudurai and this crowd in Ilango Salai, in his stronghold, today we are engaged in this vote-seeking campaign. Targeting Vijay, he said, “I am the great-grandson of Cuddalore Anjalai Ammal. What you are speaking is cinema, creating wrong guidance for the youth. They stage drama, they act, they whistle, they will come and go. But I say this standing in Ilango Salai, from MM Garden Road, from Pillaiyar Koil Lane, from our brother’s Varadarajapettai: when a problem comes, the only party that stands by people is the DMK. Whether we are in power or not, we are the only ones who solve problems.”
He continued, “We studied this area. We examined what unresolved problem had remained here for 50 years. We laid new drainage channels in every street where there were old water canals. We laid new stormwater drains too. On the main roads where such facilities did not exist, after the election we will complete the long-pending work and provide road facilities. There are many issues here. After resolving the patta problem, once the election is over, we will come back in a victory function and distribute pattas to the people. At Varadarajapettai, we installed a new transformer and solved the electricity problem. If people here have any house-related issue, the one heart that trembles for them is Anbu. He would immediately call and say, ‘Doctor, this problem here has not been solved, there is a problem in this house, a problem in that house.’ When we come seeking votes for our brother, we come to every house with a sense of rightful closeness, because our dear brother has worked here. When he was zone chairman and when he was councillor here, he got pattas for the people, created road facilities, and the one reason homes are comfortable today is that this man standing here labored for it. So, in this Ilango Salai, where Anna Arivalayam stands, the Ilango Salai that is protected by Anna Arivalayam, I come here asking for your vote. Likewise, the only Chief Minister who protects the borders of Tamil Nadu like a guardian deity is our Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. His victory is not just the victory of an MLA like Ezhilan from Thousand Lights. Our victory is the victory of protecting Tamil Nadu. Our victory is the victory that will protect Tamil Nadu and raise the women’s rights assistance from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000. Our victory is the victory that will give an ₹8,000 coupon to every homemaker. Our victory is the victory that will raise Pudhumai Penn from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500. Our victory is the victory that will raise Tamil Pudhalvan from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500. The only party with the strength to do all this and ask for votes based on work done is the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.”
He further said, “From 2011 to 2014, when the so-called double-engine setup existed and Valarmathi akka was a minister here, what exactly did she do for this area? I will tell you. Here, we changed the pipes in this locality, solved the power-cut problem, solved the sewage pipeline issue, addressed the patta issue, installed the transformer to fix the electricity problem, built a gym here, built the toilet here, and completed all these works.
