DMK Youth Wing Secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin had arrived in Trichy yesterday (November 20) to participate in various programs. He had come to the Kariyamanikkam Kailasanathar Temple where the party cadres had arranged for a ‘poorna kumbham’ honour for himwith Sivachariyars waiting to perform the honours and give the prasadam.
However, Udhayanidhi Stalin refused the ‘poorna kumbham’ honours and also did not allow the Sivachariyars to smear the vibhoodi (sacred ash) and vermilion (kum kum) on his forehead.
This incident had caused resentment among the DMK cadres and the public. The Sivachariyars who had come there took it upon as an insult meted out to them and the larger Hindu community.
Earlier his father MK Stalin had disrespected Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar on Thevar Jayanthi by rubbing off the vibhoodi prasadam from his hands without even applying it on his forehead in order to stick to his ‘rationalist’ credentials.
Following this, he had left for Thiruvarur district to launch the party’s election campaign titled ‘Vidiyalai Noki Stalin-in Kural’ (Stalin’s voice towards dawn) from Thirukuvalai, the hometown of late DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi. The campaign scheduled to run for 100 days in the wake of the Assembly elections was to be launched by Udhayanidhi Stalin.
However, he was arrested and later released as no permission was obtained to conduct the campaign.
