A 40-year-old DMK Youth Wing branch secretary has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for the sexual assault and death of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu.
The accused, Periyanayagam, from Kommaikadu village in Jesurajapur, was in an illicit relationship with the child’s mother, a 24-year-old woman from Jesurajapur Panchayat, Kaundankottai, near Anchetti.
The woman, who had separated from her husband, was living at her mother’s residence along with her daughter.
On 11 December 2025, the mother brought the child to a private hospital in Anchetti, stating that the child had suffered a seizure. Doctors declared the child dead upon examination. The child’s father, suspecting foul play, filed a complaint with the police. Anchetti police took up the investigation and ordered a post-mortem, which revealed internal injuries on the child’s body.
Further investigation established that the child had been sexually assaulted by Periyanayagam when the mother was away from home. The assault resulted in the child’s deteriorating health and eventual death.
Police have registered a case against Periyanayagam under POCSO provisions related to sexual assault resulting in death and have taken him into custody.
