AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan on Monday, 2 March 2026, launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK, alleging that the party was sacrificing Tamil Nadu’s interests to keep its Congress alliance alive ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
In a post on his X handle, Sathyan alleged that DMK had agreed to offer Congress a Rajya Sabha seat, speculating that it could go to Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, whose term is set to expire in April 2026. “Karnataka Congress which is going ahead to construct Mekatadu dam and stop cauvery for Tamilnadu is given a RS seat by this Traitor DMK to keep the DMK dynasty family hopes alive,” Sathyan alleged.
The AIADMK spokesperson also slammed Chief Minister MK Stalin, accusing him of failing to condemn the Mekedatu project despite it posing a direct threat to Tamil Nadu’s Cauvery water share. “The puppet CM of Tamil Nadu has still not condemned Mekedatu,” Sathyan wrote, implying that Stalin’s silence was a political quid pro quo for Congress support in the upcoming elections.
Sathyan further invoked a long list of issues he claimed were sacrificed by DMK in past Congress alliances including the Katchatheevu island handover, the abandonment of Sri Lankan Tamils, Cauvery water disputes, the Markandeyar river diversion, and the stalling of Methane Hydrocarbon extraction. “Whenever Congress and DMK form an alliance, it is at the cost of the lives of the common man of Tamil Nadu. The list is endless,” he charged.
