DMK office bearer beats migrant workers with logs for wanting to go back home

More than 300 workers from Odisha working in a brick kiln owned by Munasamy, who is the DMK treasurer for Ellapuram block in Tiruvallur district, were beaten mercilessly with logs for wanting to back to their homes in Odisha.

Due to the lockdown, the workers with no work were left to fend for themselves as the owners didn’t care. They planned to go back to Odisha. Upon coming to know of the workers plans, Munusamy and his brother Lakshmipathy beat the workers with logs. Nine people were injured and have been admitted in Tiruvallur Government hospital. Two of them are said to be in critical condition. Those after treatment returned to Munusamy’s place.

Both Munusamy and Lakshmipathy are currently absconding and the police are on the look-out for them. The owner of the kiln has been booked under sections 294(B) ( sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words), 324 ( voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 506 (1) (threat be to cause death or grievous hurt,) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code. Arrangements are being done for the workers to return to their homes through Shramik special trains.
