On July 20, DMK MP from Thoothukudi, Kanimozhi, had posted on her social media profile about the reply she received from the Ministry of Culture to a question about the Adichanallur pre-historic site.
The DMK MP had asked whether the Government has started work on developing the prehistoric site at Adichanallur site and the on-site museum.
Minister of Culture G. Kishan Reddy had given a written reply stating that for the development of the iconic site, different works like repairing of boundary walls, setting up basic amenities like toilets, drinking water kiosks, solar powered lights, public display boards, information boards and building of souvenir shops, cafeteria, etc have been done/undertaken.
The Minister also said in his reply that the construction of on-site museum is being done in consultation with the state government.
Kanimozhi in an attempt to play politics posted in her social media that she was astonished by the Minister’s reply as she was not able to see the boundary walls and toilets being built or solar powered lights and drinking water kiosks installed. She also added that she prefers the museum be built first.
You have mentioned about walls and toilets being built around the heritage site, drinking water, and solar-powered lights being installed. But unfortunately, we are not able to see or find any of them?

However, her claims were busted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) which replied to her tweet showing the progress of the work done so far.
“Entire notified area of 125 acres is protected by Steel grill fence. Cultural Notice Board (CNB) and information board for visitors are affixed on the site.” the ASI said adding that work on building toilets, lighting and drinking water kiosks are underway.
The ASI also pointed out that land for Museum and other amenities are being worked out with the cooperation of Tamil Nadu Government.
