DMK MP A Raja’s Controversial “Begging Bowl” Tweet Sparks Backlash, Netizens Troll DMK MP Over The Remark

Nilgiris DMK MP A Raja stirred controversy once again by posting needless content on his social media handle. This time he took to criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inability to secure an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha elections. Raja’s statement, ‘A begging bowl in the hands of God’s child,’ has ignited an intense backlash against him, as netizens are delivering pointed retorts in his comment section, cleverly incorporating his own words into their trolling responses.

The BJP government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, secured a clear majority in 2014 and reaffirmed its dominance in 2019. However, in the 2024 elections, although failing to attain a complete majority, the BJP is set to govern for the third consecutive term, which is historic feet since 1969. Despite minor setbacks in certain states, the BJP has emerged victorious, notably winning the assembly in Odisha and securing the majority of Delhi’s Lok Sabha seats. Overall, the BJP claimed 240 seats, with allied parties such as the Telugu Desam Party, Janata Dal (United), Shiv Sena, and Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) collectively supporting, leading to the NDA’s meeting with the president to form a government. Additionally, smaller parties within the BJP alliance have also secured seats. With a total of over 290 seats won by the BJP alliance, there is no issue regarding the majority.

Earlier, in an interview with a private media outlet, Prime Minister Modi expressed a personal sense of calling, stating that he believes God has tasked him with a significant purpose beyond his biological existence. Opposition parties have seized upon this statement, teasing and criticizing Modi as “God’s child.”

In this backdrop after the results DMK MP A Raja in his official X handle stated, “A begging bowl in the hands of God’s child! Akshaya Patra (inexhaustible vessel) is with Andhra and Bihar; Forget about God, remember the man! Periyar is alive!!” This tweet has elicited a strong response from the BJP and netizens.

Even though the BJP secured 240 seats on its own, the I.N.D.I alliance, with a total of only 232 seats, oddly celebrates this as a victory, much to the mockery of netizens. One netizen questioned, “The one who goes to the cabinet is quiet… Why are you shouting, when you are going to the canteen?” Another netizen remarked, “Despite guarding the ‘Ilavu,’ there’s no position, no power; now, a swarm of beggars has no hope of leapfrogging from 2G to 5G loot. No chance, Raja, no chance. They’ve simply dispatched you for eating samosas, bondas, tea, and rubbing seats.”

Another netizen sarcastically quipped, “Already they’ve begun to wash the legs to grasp power. This time, just cry again about the absence of beef biriyani in the canteen; they’ll swiftly transfer you to Tihar, where only aluminum pots await.” Yet another queried, “Have you forgotten Karunanidhi, who also carried the Akshaya Patra with the PMK and Congress support?” To which another netizen jabbed, “Says the one whose sole activity for a decade has been snacking on bondas in the canteen, destined to continue for another five years. Periyar lives in hair!”

Additionally, netizens shared videos showcasing DMK ministers and MPs visiting various temples to perform rituals during the elections, asking whether he is mentioning them.

One observer highlighted A Raja’s stance before the elections, where he initially declared, “We won’t accept Lord Ram,” but later adjusted his position, stating that his wife was a fervent worshipper of Lord Ram during the election campaign.
