Political parties across Tamil Nadu are campaigning for the upcoming local body polls, that is all set to happen on 19th February.
It has now come to the limelight that in addition to general campaigning, DMK candidates and cadres are now also going around with application forms, claiming it to be for ₹1,000 aid to women, which the DMK had promised in the run up to 2021 Assembly Elections.
The form asks for details such as Name of the woman head of household, address, phone number, Aadhar Card number, number of family members, Ration card type, Ration card number, Bank account number, and additionally also if they come under the Below Poverty line category.
The cadres and candidates who are issuing this form to the women of the household are also allegedly claiming that it is from the State government, although there has been no announcement on that front officially. It is to be noted that, when DMK was campaigning for the state elections, they had made the same promise, which made a lot of women vote for them, across the state. However, immediately after they came to power, Finance Minister P Thiaga Rajan said that it was only applicable to ‘poor’ women. After that, till date the DMK government has not fulfilled the poll promise.
With the DMK facing questions from the public about the non-fulfilment of promise, the cadres seem to be taking this approach.
Recently when MK Stalin’s son and DMK MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin was campaigning for the local body polls, he was asked by a commoner about the ₹1,000 for women, to which he said that they had four more years.
