The DMK government on May 17 made it mandatory for those travelling within the city using personal vehicles to register themselves. People who have to travel from one police station limit to another have to carry an e-registration certificate.
This certificate is needed even to travel during the permitted time from 6 AM to 10 PM when people head out to buy essentials. This move had already come under heavy criticism as traders and small vendors find it difficult to cope with such regulations.
However, the piling up of vehicles in the arterial Anna Salai shows the extent of failure of the mandatory e-registration certificate. Policemen manning the arterial road had erected barricades and can be seen checking every vehicle for the e-pass while scores of vehicles pile up behind.

Many have asked the government to review its decision on e-registration saying that it is causing unnecessary chaos and distress.
The short notice given to people is bound to cause confusion and distress to people who are trying to make a livelihood.
There is no option for people to travel to banks, airports or factories.
I advise the state government to review their registration policy immediately. https://t.co/hDCS3nUGyP

E-Pass btwn police station limit is the most ridiculous rule ever in India.
It's not only causing inconvenience to public, but highly taxing on the over stressed Police.
What madness is this… https://t.co/FvQrZr2t2o
