DMK Govt fumbles to bring flood situation under control in Chennai

For the past 4 days, Chennai and other coastal districts in the northern parts of Tamil Nadu have been receiving heavy rainfall.

Many suburbs of Chennai have been inundated due to the continuous downpour with people commuting in boats to fetch essential supplies.

Localities such as T. Nagar, West Mambalam, Kodambakkam, K.K. Nagar, Saidapet and other areas have been inundated due to the indiscriminate dumping of garbage in the drainage canals.

Kolathur, Chief Minister MK Stalin’s own constituency, from where he has been elected MLA since 2011, is in a sorry of affairs with water entering homes, no electricity and people travelling in boats.

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai hitting out at CM Stalin said that one can get a taste of the falsely constructed ‘Dravidian Development Model’ by visiting Kolathur.

He said that the DMK government is ‘totally clueless’ about bringing the situation under control.

The DMK government’s failure to make adequate preparations for handling the north-east monsoon has resulted in people facing extreme difficulties.

Opposition leaders and common people have been lashing out at the DMK government for their shoddy handling of the situation.

With rain water and sewage getting mixed in many areas, there is also the risk of spread of diseases.

Though Chief Minister Stalin and his coterie of Ministers have been roaming around the city inspecting affected areas, opposition leaders are calling it as photo op events in an attempt to hide their failure.

T. Nagar which comes under the Smart City area has knee deep water standing. While CM Stalin has been trying to wash his hands off by shifting the blame on the previous AIADMK government, it has come to light that the reason for T. Nagar and other areas getting flooded in the past four days because of mindless dumping of garbage in these canals by Chennai Corporation contractors and officials.

The IMD on 30th October 2021 had warned that Chennai and other coastal districts in the northern part of the state would receive heavy rainfall in the days ahead.

However, CM Stalin was watching Jai Bhim on October 31 in a special screening held for him and had written a detailed review about the movie which he posted the next day.

Opposition leaders and netizens are now lashing out at the DMK and have been questioning if whether the the job of a state’s Chief Minister to watch movies on OTT platforms or make preparations for monsoon so that losses can be minimized.
