Despite the chaos triggered by Kamal Haasan’s usual loose talk—this time costing the film its grand opening in Karnataka, the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu came to the rescue. They granted permission for special screenings of his latest release Thug Life, starting as early as 9 AM and running until 2 AM, allowing the maximum five shows on 5 June 2025 to ensure a strong release for Mani Ratnam’s much-anticipated film.

This comes under the backdrop of a request from the film’s producers, Raaj Kamal Films International, the Tamil Nadu government has authorized an additional screening scheduled for 9 AM on release day. As per regulations, theatres can run up to five shows a day, with the final show required to conclude by 2 AM.

Thug Life boasts a star-studded cast that includes Silambarasan, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Nassar, Joju George, Mahesh Manjrekar, Tanikella Bharani, Vadivukkarasi, Chinni Jayanth, Vaiyapuri, Bagavathi Perumal, Baburaj, Ali Fazal, Rohit Saraf, Arjun Chidambaram, Chetan, and Rajashri Deshpande.

The film marks a major cinematic reunion, bringing Kamal Haasan and director Mani Ratnam back together after 36 years since their iconic film Nayakan. The technical team behind Thug Life includes acclaimed cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran, legendary composer A.R. Rahman, editor Sreekar Prasad, and the action choreographer duo Anbariv. The film is a joint production by Red Giant Movies (led by Udhayanidhi Stalin), Raaj Kamal Films International, and Madras Talkies.
