Recently, the DMK government in Tamil Nadu has announced an award for writer Nellai Kannan, for his contributions towards developing the Tamil language. Simultaneously, a video of the writer’s speech during anti CAA protests, has gone viral on Twitter, pointing out his offensive speech towards Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Addressing a crowd of Muslims gathered in a meeting called by the Islamist outfit Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Nellai Kannan ‘jokes’ about ‘”finishing off” Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. “I thought you will “Finish Off” (read kill) PM Narendra Modi & Amit Shah, but you have not..” he says, addressing a gathering of Muslims seated amongst Muslim leaders. Nellai Kannan had said that Home Minister Amit Shah was acting as the brain behind PM Modi and that if his story was ‘finished’, that of the PM would also be over too. He also uses names and calls the Prime Minister a ‘fraud’ and a ‘dog’.
In the same video he also derogates AIADMK leaders O. Panneerselvam and Edappadi K. Palaniswami addressing them vulgarly. He also makes derogatory comments on PM Modi’s wife. He says that he would ‘kill’ BJP leader K.T. Raghavan if he went for a TV debate with him. He also calls the Brahmin community derogatarily as ‘dogs’ (Paapaara Naaingala).
It is to be noted that the Tamil writer was also booked for his speech, and subsequently arrested for it, back in 2020. He also received the Kamarajar Kathir Award in the presence of Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, in December 2021.
