Although the over ₹2000 crore drug bust leading to Tamil film producer Jaffer Sadiq who was also an office bearer of the DMK NRI Wing is making national headlines, local news media in Tamil Nadu seem to not be covering the developments of the case.
Against this backdrop, media channels like Polimer TV which is following up with the case found itself in a tough situation. A Polimer TV cameraman covering the NCB searches related to Jaffer Sadiq’s drug bust was attacked by DMK party workers earlier today. It has come to light that he was attacked by supporters of DMK executive Chitrarasu.

AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palanisami posted on his official X handle condemning the attack. He wrote, “In the case of drug trafficking, the DMK should give full cooperation to any investigation. Instead, someone very close to DMK’s first family corrupted our people. The fact that the drug smuggling mafia was the leader of the entire peaceful life of Tamil Nadu people and in this regard the DMK thugs carrying out a murderous attack on the courier office under the DMK district secretary’s office raises various doubts. I urge the Vidiyal government police not to delay filing any case regarding the attack on private news cameraman Senthil, immediately file a case, arrest the DMK thugs who carried out the murderous attack and take appropriate legal action. Also, I request the Prime Minister that this DMK government must ensure freedom of expression without giving any political threats to the journalists who are gathering news about the increasing drug circulation in Tamil Nadu and the activists who are continuously talking about it on social media.”

A few weeks earlier, News7 Tamil journalist Nesaprabhu became the victim of a ruthless attack on 24 January 2024 by ‘mysterious men’. The assailants, armed with sickles and knives, inflicted severe injuries on the journalist. It was reported that the attack on Nesaprabhu was likely a repercussion of his recent coverage exposing the illegal sale of liquor in Tirupur.
