DMK functionaries fill-up theatres, distribute free tickets to celebrate their crown prince’s film

Nenjukku Needhi, starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son and DMK MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin was released on May 20, 2022.

The film is the Tamil-remake of the Hindi film titled Article 15, which had Ayushman Khurrana in the lead role.

The film high on propaganda containing the usual DMK rhetoric around NEET, ‘Hindi imposition’, National Education Policy is being touted as a film that will elevate Udhayanidhi’s political status.

In order to ramp up the image of the Udhayanidhi Stalin, DMK functionaries at different levels have been flocking the theatres to ensure that the film fetches a good run.

Chief Minister MK Stalin himself took time out of his busy scheduled to watch his son’s film at a special screening in Chennai. This has been seen as a message to other DMK functionaries to promote the film.

Following this DMK Ministers, MPs, MLA, Councillors, party functionaries and cadres have been doing their best to ensure that their crown prince’s film becomes a success.

Minister of Agriculture MRK Panneerselvam his son MRK Kathiravan, Cuddalore Mayor Sundari Raja, alon with members of the corporation council went to watch the ‘first-day-first-show’ of the film.

Law Minister Raghupathi, Environment Minister Siva V. Meyyanathan and Pudukottai MLA Muthuraja saw the film at a theater in Pudukkottai.

DMK functionaries led by Karur Corporation Mayor Kavitha Ganesan saw the film in the city with other party cadres.

Thanjavur Mayor Shan Ramanathan had included watching the film as part of his itinerary for the day, pictures of which went viral.

In many districts, party functionaries have booked tickets in bulk and are reportedly distributing to the public for free. Around 1300 tickets in two theatres in Cuddalore were bought by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s ‘fan club’ and distributed free of cost to DMK cadres. Movie-goers were also provided with free Biryani.

In Madurai, a DMK functionary named Bala put up a poster saying that tickets for the film will be given free to college students and had also mentioned his phone-number to reach out for tickets.

Manamadurai MLA Tamilarasi Ravikumar had booked all the tickets in the theatre for yesterday’s evening show to take DMK cadres in the region for the film.

Huge cutouts of Udhayanidhi Stalin and posters with catchy one-liners hailing him as the ‘saviour of Tamil Nadu’ are being put up by DMK functionaries at the local level.

Members of the public and opposition parties in Tamil Nadu like the AIADMK and BJP have been appalled by the film being promoted by the DMK.
