Slippers came flying and landed on the windshield of Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan (PTR)’s car as he was leaving the Madurai Airport to go to his home.
Minister Thiagarajan on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government had gone to the Madurai Airport to pay respects to Rifleman D Lakshmanan (24), the Indian soldier killed in action in a fidayeen attack by armed terrorists in Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir.
The body of the slain soliders was kept at a pandal erected to allow for VIPs to pay their homage.
Members of the BJP too had assembled to pay their respects to the martyred Indian soldier belonging to T. Pudupatti village near Madurai.
At that time, there was a spat between members of the DMK and BJP as PTR had reportedly told the assembled BJP members that they can come only after he paid his respects and asked them to stay away.
According to a report by Thanthi TV, BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai too who had come to pay homage was made to wait for a long time.
Angered by the DMK Minister’s attitude, members of the BJP laid seige to his vehicle as he was about to leave the airport. One of them (reportedly a woman) threw a slipper at PTR’s car.
Video of this incident has now gone viral in social media with the hashtag #DWD_செருப்படி. DWD stands for ‘Double Watch Douglas’, a moniker given to PTR as he earlier used to wear wrist watch in both his hands.
