“Disappointed That People Of TN Supported Those Who Killed Sri Lankan Tamils In The Elections”, Says Madurai Adheenam On Lok Sabha Election Results

The 293rd pontiff the of Madurai Adheenam, Sri Gnanasambandha Desika Paramacharya, congratulated Narendra Modi on being sworn in as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term. He also congratulated all the election winners in Tamil Nadu, including Seeman and Annamalai who secured a great number of votes.

The Adheenam, speaking to the press stated that he had a couple of requests.  He said, “I congratulate all those who won from Tamil Nadu. All those who lost also garnered quite a number of votes. Seeman also garnered a lot of votes and so also Annamalai. The people of Tamil Nadu have voted for everyone. I only have one disappointment with the Tamil people is that not so long ago in Sri Lanka, so many lakhs of people who were killed there have also won. I am disappointed at that development. That is why they cannot rule at the centre. At the same time, it is noteworthy that Narendra Modi built homes for Sri Lankan Tamils. I have two requests to place with Narendra Modi who is the victor. One is that Kachchatheevu was handed over to Sri Lanka long back, I request that we get back to the island and solve the issues faced by the fishermen. If we own Kachchatheevu, we will be able to fish well. We must retrieve the island and unite it with Tamil Nadu.”

The Adheenam mentioned that Katchatheevu has been a longstanding demand, not just an election issue. He expressed confidence that even if Modi leads a coalition government, he will fulfill these two demands regarding Katchatheevu and Tamil Eelam.

He further added, “Secondly, I request that the small percentage of Tamils living in Sri Lanka be protected and a Tamil Eelam must be created. I have these two requests to the Prime Minister of India.”

When prodded about his disappointment, he said, “You know who I am hinting at but I will not say it by myself. Who killed Sri Lankan Tamils? Who sent the army there? You know it, I will not reveal it. I am disappointed at the fact that the Tamil people here supported those who killed the Sri Lankan Tamils, a few have won, you know who it is.”

When asked if he would get an opportunity to meet the Prime Minister, the Madurai Adheenam replied, “Of course, I will meet him, I have to make these requests. I will ask for a separate country for Tamils.”

He acknowledged that the BJP did not win a majority in Tamil Nadu, attributing it to the democratic process where people hold the key to electoral wins. He praised Modi for not dismissing any state government during his tenure, unlike previous governments. The Adheenam lauded Modi for supporting all religions, as evidenced by appointing a woman from the Scheduled Tribe community as President.
