“Different Rules For North & South”: EPS-Faction ADMK Leader Speaks DMK Language Against Central Govt

A senior leader of the EPS-faction of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK), Jeyakumar, has echoed the language of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), accusing the central government of discriminating against Tamil Nadu in devolution of funds. This unexpected move raises questions about why the ADMK, historically seen as the rival of the DMK, is now playing the same political game.

Jeyakumar, while addressing the media, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government, stating, “If we take the list from 2015, Tamil Nadu has asked for nearly ₹1.5 lakh crores for cyclone relief, as cyclones ravaged Chennai and Tamil Nadu. However, the central government has only allocated ₹7000 crores. Whether it’s the Congress or the BJP, the national parties ruling at the center have neglected Tamil Nadu. If similar cyclones had hit northern states of India, they would have received a lot more in relief funds. Tamil Nadu’s taxes should be utilized for Tamil Nadu’s welfare. Why there is different rules for North and South?”

This rhetoric closely resembles the usual stance of the DMK, which often criticizes the central government, accusing it of neglecting Tamil Nadu. By adopting similar language, Jeyakumar has left many wondering why the ADMK, which has historically been at odds with the DMK, is now echoing its rival’s sentiments.
