Devikulam MLA from Kerala takes oath in Tamil during swearing-in ceremony

Raja, a CPM MLA from Devikulam Assembly constituency in Kerala, made the headlines when he proceeded to take the oath of office in Tamil as an MLA in the Kerala Assembly.

The assembly elections were held in the state of Kerala on April 6. The votes were counted on May 2. Out of a total of 140 legislative constituencies, the LDF coalition won 99 seats. The Congress-led UDF alliance won the remaining 41 seats.

In this context, for the second time in the history of Kerala, the new government headed by Pinarayi Vijayan took office on the 20th. The first session of the 15th Legislative Assembly began on Monday. Interim Speaker Rahim administered the oath of office to 140 MLAs. Members were sworn in using the English alphabetical order.

CPM MLA Raja took the oath of office in Tamil. He is a lawyer and studied at the Coimbatore Law College. Raja, who contested from Devikulam constituency in Idukki district, won by a margin of 7,848 votes. He contested and won the election for the first time.
