In his Mann Ki Baat address on August 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about the importance of domesticating Indian dog breeds.
This has led to a sudden demand of indigenous breeds like Chippippara, Rajapalayam, Mudhol Hound, Kombai, Kanni, Bulli Kutha.
After the speech, people started adopting domesticated varieties of dog that are best suited for the Indian conditions, unlike the foreign ones like huskies, pugs, etc.
Already many Indian breeds are being trained and inducted into the service of the Indian military and the other para-military security forces like the Border Security force(BSF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for operation purposes.
The most sought out desi dog breed is Chippipparai, which is native to Tamil Nadu. This particular breed is known for being extremely affectionate towards its owner and is regarded as the most intelligent and biddable of India’s native dog breeds.
Chippippara’s is uniquelly suited for guard duties as its eyes are positioned in a way that provides it a vision of 270 degrees. It has a strong and agile body which is effective for hunting and requires only minimum food since it has a small stomach.
