The Delhi Police on Sunday (August 23) recovered incriminating materials from the residence of Abu Yusuf in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh who was arrested near Dhaula Kuan area in Delhi yesterday. 2 explosive IED 1 pistol recovered when he was arrested. National Security Guards were called to the spot immediately to comb the area.
On Sunday, the police followed up on the case and recovered huge amounts of explosives including explosive jackets (supposedly for fidayeen attacks).
2 explosive jackets, 1 explosive belt, around 9-kg of raw explosives, ball bearings, 7 cylindrical boxes, timer, 4 batteries, ISIS flag & board on which Islamic State operative Abu Yusuf used to practice shooting were recovered from his village, Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Pramod Kushwaha was quoted saying to the ANI.
The Deputy DCP said that Abu Yusuf was planning to plant the two recovered IEDs in a high footfall area of Delhi and added that he was to receive instructions from his handler to carry out a fidayeen attack.
Back at his home, Abu Yusuf’s father Kafeel Ahmad said that he regretted that his son was involved in such activities. He said that his son could be forgiven if possible for once but added that his son’s act was wrong. “Had I known about his activities I would have asked him to leave us”, Kafeel Ahmad said.
His wife told that Abu Yusuf had stored gunpowder & other materials at their home. When she tried to stop him, he had asked her to not interfere in the matter. “I wish he could be forgiven. I have four kids. Where will I go?”, his wife said.
