Dalit man who immolated himself outside TN CM Stalin’s house dies

A man belonging to the Scheduled Caste who had immolated himself outside Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on September 27, succumbed to the burns on October 5, 2021.

Vetrimaran (48), hails from Kuruvikulam in Theni district. He was the head of Tamil Nadu Paraiyar Peravai, a Dalit outfit.

He had applied to contest for the post of Kuruvikulam Panchayat Council Chairman in the local body elections slated to be held in two phases on October 6 and 9.

Balakrishnan, the husband of former panchayat chief Kamala, and members of his community reportedly rejected Vetrimaran’s petition for the post.

Following this, Vetrimaran came to Chennai and set himself on fire outside CM MK Stalin’s house. He was rushed to the hospital and was diagnosed with 40% burns and subsequently died on October 5 evening.

Except for a few media in Tamil Nadu, none of them have shed light on this issue.
