Cuddalore Woman Dies After Post-Delivery Complications In Jayankondam Government Hospital, Family Alleges Medical Negligence

On 28 December 2024, S Sangeetha (24) from Cuddalore tragically died, allegedly due to complications arising from a post-delivery operative procedure, just one day after giving birth to her second child.

The woman’s family accused the doctors at Jayankondam Government Hospital (GH) in Ariyalur of negligence and staged a road blockade in front of the hospital that night.

According to police, Sangeetha, a resident of Kondairuppu Colony in Kattumannarkoil block of Cuddalore district, was admitted to the Jayankondam GH on 26 December 2024. Already a mother to a three-year-old son, she gave birth to a baby boy the next day. Following the delivery, Sangeetha underwent a hysterectomy. However, an alleged post-operative hemorrhage necessitated her transfer to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital. Despite receiving treatment, she succumbed to her condition on 28 December night.

Her grieving family and relatives continued their protest through 29 December morning, demanding accountability from the doctors involved and compensation for her family. Revenue officials and police from Jayankondam engaged with the protesters and assured them of action, leading to the demonstration being called off.

An official clarified that Sangeetha was admitted to Jayankondam GH only on the day of delivery and did not receive prior treatment there. Meanwhile, Jayankondam police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
