The Paramakudi Sundararaja Perumal Temple is in danger of losing its colorful little joys of festival mood as the court ordered the removal of festival stalls and merry-go-round on the banks of the Vaigai river, just a day before the festival. This decision was made in an urgent public interest litigation without hearing the organizers and temple administrators.
The presence of merry-go-round and entertainment shops along the banks of the Vaigai river during festivals has been a tradition for many years.
Hindu Munnani stated,” The presence of merry-go-round and shops during festivals is an integral part of the celebration. Many believe that without these, the festivals lose their essence and cultural significance.”
Expressing their dissatisfaction with the court’s decision, Hindu Munnani, has urged the courts to reconsider their stance. They argued that ordering the removal of merry-go-round and shops in the name of the environment goes against the sentiments of the people who find joy and excitement in these festival traditions.
“The presence of merry-go-round and entertainment shops during festivals is an integral part of our traditions. Without these, festivals cannot be art,” said Hindu Munnani.
