Congress MP Karti Chidambaram Says Stalin Never Spoke Harshly, Old ‘Illicit Relationship’ Remark Resurfaces

A recent podcast interaction featuring a Congress MP Karti Chidambaram with ANI has sparked political discussion after the MP publicly praised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s political temperament and leadership style.

During the conversation, the Karti lauded Stalin as a consensus builder and highlighted his restrained public rhetoric toward political opponents.

He said, “One thing about M.K. Stalin I will say is that nobody will say that he said a harsh word about them. You can’t, you can’t find a word he said something nasty about a political opponent, he said something nasty to a person. He’s been a big consensus builder. He doesn’t have his father’s oratory skills. He doesn’t have his father’s instantaneous wit. But he compensated for that by sheer grit, hard work and being patient and by keeping everybody together. Today in Tamil Nadu, nobody… people will say a lot of things about DMK – this person said this, this person said that, this person said this. But you’ll never ever be able to point a finger and say Stalin said something distasteful. And that has been his biggest strength and he’s been able to keep not only his party but also the coalition together through his attitude. And I think that’s a remarkable strength he has.”

However, amid the praise, an earlier video clip of Stalin from a public meeting several years ago where he spoke poorly about J Jayalalalithaa and Narendra Modi (who were Chief Ministers of their respsective states then) resurfaced on social media, drawing renewed political reactions.

In the speech, Stalin is heard referring to interactions between former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. He said, “In Gujarat, when Modi was taking oath as Chief Minister, you went in person and congratulated him. Similarly, when you took oath as the CM in Tamil Nadu, he personally came and congratulated you. So just like (using a quote from Kamba Ramayanam describing Rama and Sita) ‘Avalum nokkinaal, Annalum nokinaal’, he also came and she also went. That’s all, right? That is what I said. BJP and ADMK have a relationship, that too an illicit relationship, I have said this in 7-8 meetings. Have they given any response for that? Any explanation? Any report? None. Silence is a sign of consent. That is the truth.”

The resurfaced clip has been circulated by political commentators and party supporters online, with some questioning the Congress MP’s characterization of Stalin’s political language.
