Confusion At Dindugal Bus Stand As Electronic Display Shows Chinese Text Instead of Tamil

At the Dindugal bus stand, passengers awaiting a government bus destined for Pollachi found themselves bewildered as the electronic nameplate, designed to indicate the bus’s destination, displayed text in Chinese rather than Tamil.

The mishap unfolded when passengers noticed the unfamiliar characters on the electronic display, causing understandable confusion among those eagerly anticipating their journey. Instead of the expected Tamil script indicating “Pollachi,” the display appeared to be communicating in Chinese, leaving passengers uncertain about the bus’s intended destination. This unexpected display caused confusion among waiting passengers who were unsure whether the bus was bound for Pollachi or China.

Karthik Gopinath, the State Vice President of the Social Media cell of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, in his tweet,“Stalin government cannot hide their love for the Chinese I guess! Name boards in Mandarin. Kanimozhi be like – after all, China is not a declared enemy.”

It is noteworthy that in February 2024 when the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was in Tamil Nadu to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various projects in the region. Among the initiatives, PM Modi was laying the foundation stone for an upcoming ISRO launch complex at Kulasekarapattinam, Thoothukudi district, valued at approximately ₹986 crore. This state-of-the-art facility was designed to support 24 launches annually and encompasses 35 facilities.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, however, posted full-page advertisements in Tamil newspapers intimating readers of PM Modi’s arrival in the state to inaugurate the facility. However, the advertisement shows multiple foreign rockets including Chinese rockets, and not a single Indian rocket or a flag anywhere in the advertisement.

Speaking to ANI, Thoothukudi DMK MP Kanimozhi, when asked about the newspaper advertisement in the state having an image of a rocket with a Chinese flag, she said“I don’t know from where the person who did the artwork, found this picture from. I don’t think India has declared China as an enemy country. I have seen that the Prime Minister has invited the Chinese PM and they have gone to Mahabalipuram. Just because you do not want to accept the truth, you are finding reasons to divert the issue…”
