Coimbatore College Lecturer Arrested For Alleged Sexual Assault Of Job Seeker

A lecturer from a private college in Coimbatore has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 25-year-old woman at his home on 12 November 2024.

The lecturer, identified as 45-year-old P Sivaprakasam, resides on Nehru Street in Murugan Nagar, near Kalveerampalayam. He faces charges under Sections 64 (1) and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which relate to rape and attempting to commit crimes punishable by life imprisonment or severe penalties. Sivaprakasam teaches at a private engineering college near Thondamuthur.

According to the police, the woman, who hails from Tiruppur, was job hunting and got introduced to Sivaprakasam through a mutual friend. She sought his help to secure a position as a lab assistant at a private college in Coimbatore. Sivaprakasam reportedly requested her educational certificates via WhatsApp and invited her to visit him on 12 November 2024.

The woman visited Sivaprakasam’s residence alone in the afternoon, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. In distress, she hid in a bathroom and locked herself inside. From there, she called a friend to report the incident and shared her location via WhatsApp.

Her friend promptly informed the Vadavalli police, who arrived at the scene and rescued her. Subsequently, Sivaprakasam was taken to the All Women Police Station in Coimbatore west, where the woman filed an official complaint. He has since been arrested and placed in judicial custody.
