Chennai City to see spike in cases for few more days, says Radhakrishnan

Special Nodal Officer Mr. J. Radhakrishnan told press persons on Sunday that only 2 wards reported more than 200 cases of the virus. He said that as many as 119 of 200 wards in the city reported less than 10 cases. Around 60 wards in the city reported 10-30 cases.

Mr. Radhakrishnan said that the number of cases is likely to increase for another 5-6 days with increase in testing in areas like Thiruvanmiyur. He added that targeted testing in certain clusters like north Chennai had to be done for the past 9 days to contain the spread of the disease.

“Many people are concerned about the rise in trend in positive cases in Chennai. We cannot stop testing contacts of those who tested positive”, he said.

He mentioned that the death rate in the city went down to 0.68%. NGOs are being roped in to create behavioural change among people, he said.

“This is a war against a pandemic. All of us are soldiers in this war. Many people do not wear mask and do not maintain social distancing. More than 30% of the residents do not wear mask. The spread can be reduced by wearing a mask and social distancing”, he said.
