China has reimposed a strict lockdown around the Beijing area after a surge in cases was noticed. The restrictions have come to force after the fear of a second wave gripped the country. China was the country where this pandemic emerged, and despite their attempts to keep it under control, these new cases threaten those efforts.
Over the last 24 hours, Beijing has reported 14 new cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing it to a total of 311.
Anxin province is the one that has been locked down and according to the officials, it would be fully enclosed and controlled. Only essential workers are allowed to leave their homes, and a single member of every household is to be granted permission for grocery shopping. This region is 90 miles to the south of Beijing and it is a part of the region that has been locked down.
This is a threat to the country’s existing conditions since they had been with zero local transmission for the past 57 days. This new lockdown puts close to 500,000 people under isolation, which is a Herculean task by itself. Almost 8 million Beijing residents have been tested for the coronavirus in just 18 days, local authorities said June 28, with the number of daily tests, expanded from 40,000 to more than 450,000.
