Chennai to transform in South East Asia’s data centre hub, Adani Group comes out with big plans

Gautam Adani led Adani group is set to invest ₹2,500 crore to establish a hyper-scale data centre in Chennai, as reported by the Hindu Businessline.

This new facility would transform Chennai into South East Asia’s data centre hub.

The project is called ‘Adani Chennai-1’, and the project’s foundation stone was laid last week. The new data centre unit would come up in Siruseri IT Park, a major IT hub located on the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).

The facility is going to be the largest hyper-scale tier-3+ data centre in Chennai and once completed, it would serve as a “one-stop-shop for telecom and IT sector needs of hyper-scale customers”.

For a long time, the state of Tamil Nadu has been known as a centre for investment by tech giants and operations for major banks. Also, it has three undersea cable landing stations, sound optic fibre network connectivity and geographic proximity to key foreign destinations

Already, Chennai is home to several smaller data centres with investment commitments of over ₹8,300 crore from the likes of Niranjan Hiranandani’s Yotta Infrastructure, HDCI Data Centre Holdings and Singapore-based ST Tele Media.

This new investment by Adani will now help cross the figure to over ₹10,000 crore.
