On 19 May 2024, less than a month after facing relentless social media humiliation, when her child accidentally fell from the balcony of their apartment in Chennai, a tech professional named V Ramya was tragically discovered dead at her family home in Karamadai, Coimbatore.
Despite the miraculous rescue of her eight-month-old child by residents of their apartment complex in Thirumullaivoyal on 28 April 2024, Ramya reportedly struggled to cope with the shame inflicted upon her. Sources indicate that she had been deeply distraught ever since the incident occurred.

Ramya (29), employed at an IT firm in Chennai, was accompanied by her husband Venkatesh (34), also an IT professional, along with their child during their visit to her paternal home in Karamadai, where they had been staying for the past two weeks. On this fateful Sunday, Ramya was left alone at the house while her parents attended a function. Upon their return, they discovered her unconscious and immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital, but their efforts were in vain.
On 28 April 2024, Ramya was on her balcony feeding her six-month-old daughter, Hiranmayi, with her left hand. Suddenly, the baby became frightened and slipped from Ramya’s grasp, falling 15 feet onto the roof of the sunshade on the first floor, landing with a loud thud.
Alarmed by the noise and the baby’s cries, neighbors quickly gathered. They were shocked to see Hiranmayi precariously hanging on the edge of the roof. Reacting swiftly, they spread a blanket below to catch her in case she fell further. In the midst of the commotion, Hari, a young man from the same apartment complex, climbed over the first-floor balcony’s glass handrail and successfully rescued the baby.
Luckily, Hiranmayi sustained only minor abrasions and received immediate first aid. She was then taken to Avadi Private Hospital for a thorough check-up. After confirming she had no serious injuries, they brought her home around 4:45 PM.
The video of the child falling from the floor went viral on social media. Many people are praising the teenager Hari who rescued the child within 10 minutes of the incident. Similarly, many people are condemning the negligence of the mother. Reports suggest that Ramya was profoundly affected by the accident in which her child slipped from her grasp and fell from the fourth-floor balcony to the roof below. However, the swift action and cooperation of the apartment residents resulted in the successful rescue of the child.
Insensitive Online Trolls & Condemnation
On the same day, the news was deliberately made viral. In the video, the women filming the incident were chastising the mother whose child had slipped. News channels quickly picked up the story, with Polimer TV and Tamil News 24×7 broadcasting on-site interviews with residents and the person who rescued the child, providing extensive video coverage. Sathyam Channel’s news bite tagline bluntly stated, “Parents made a mistake…The child fell from the 4th floor. The local people saved it like god,” which many felt was excessive.
Twitter users and influencers, without understanding the full context, immediately blamed the mother for the accident. Now the incident of the child’s mother death by suicide has sparked outrage and netizens went on rage against self-styled movie reviewer Prashanth Rangaswamy for his insensitive post, where he callously asked, “For the parents of that child – Is a baby necessary for you?” This remark during the incident recieves backlash from netizens.
