Chennai-based company develops device to aid COVID-19 patients and nurses

Etticos, a Chennai-based company claims to have developed a device to bridge the gap between healthcare workers and COVID-19 patients.

Vigneshwar, the CEO of the company that came up with Etticos COVID-19 Patient Care System says that a patient can communicate with healthcare workers using this smart button.

He says that the pandemic has had a psychological effect on both patients and healthcare workers. If a patient is suspected to have contracted the virus and is admitted in a hospital, “there will not be an attendant” at all times. This is to reduce the risk for nurses to get infected. “There needs to be something to bridge this gap,” he adds.

The device can be handed to the patients and they can press the button in case they need assistance. On pressing the button, the nurse will get the patient’s information which includes the name and room number on the display at the nurse’s station.

A single press would mean that the patient requires water, a double press is for medicine and triple press is for other cases of emergency. More than 100 patientients can be displayed at once. The distance between the nurse and the patient can be upto 1 kilometer, which can be increased further accordingly.

The device is patented and completely ‘Made in India’. He says it cost ranges between Rs. 2000 to Rs. 3000. However, it can also be reduced.
