₹1,01,500 crore rupees have been allocated under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act for the financial year 2020-21, the All India Radio News reported on Tuesday.
This is the highest ever provision of funds allocated under the programme. A sum of ₹31,493 crores has already been released in 2020-2021. This amount is more than 50% of the budget estimate for the current financial year.
Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that so far, a total of 60.80 crore person days have been generated and work has been offered to 6.69 crore persons.
On an average, over 2.51 crore persons were offered work in May this year, 73% higher than the work offered during the same period last year.
