In a raid conducted at the premises of a DMK office bearer to investigate about the illegal felling down of trees, it was found that the he indulged in illegal river sand mining too after hoards of sand were found.
Shanmuga Vadivelu is the Thirupatthur Panchayat Union President belonging to the DMK.
Tashildar Jayalakshmi conducted an inspection at the Thirupatthur Panchayat Union office following information that more trees had been cut down than allowed at the auction and were found in a garden on Kandaramanikkam Road.
Around 50 tipper truck sand, 450 tipper truck loamy soil were also found along with the felled trees.
Upon inquiring it was revealed that the place belonged to DMK office bearer Shanmuga Vadivelu.
Following this, Tahsildar Jayalakshmi filed a complaint at the Thirukoshtiyur Police Station and a case has been registered under non-bailable sections against the DMK man for illegally mining sand from river bed.
Police are now on the culprit who has absconded.
