Canadian PM donates $10 million towards COVID relief in India

India is being hit hardest by the second wave of coronavirus infections. Oxygen cylinders and Remdesivir are in short supply in many parts of the country. Oxygen shortages are reported daily in several states including Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

In this context, the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau has announced that he will provide $10 million in financial assistance to India, which is engaged in a war against Corona. He told reporters, “The Indian people are currently facing a difficult situation. We have donated $10 million to the Indian Red Cross through the Canadian Red Cross to purchase ambulances and medical equipment. We are ready to provide more medical assistance.”

Trudeau said on Tuesday, “It’s something the Canadians are extremely concerned about as we see the terrible and tragic images coming out of India. We know we have to be there for our friends. We are there to support in any way we can, and those conversations are very much ongoing.” Meanwhile, Trudeau got his first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine a few days ago.

In addition to governmental measures, several NGOs have come forward to collaborate with their Indian counterparts to help deal with the oxygen shortage that is being reported throughout the country.
