His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh Prince Phillip has been admitted to hospital after feeling unwell over the last few days, confirmed Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.
Amidst speculations of him suffering from a COVID related illness, the Palace came out with a press release stating that the hospitalisation was done as a precautionary measure. The release added that he was “in good spirits” in hospital, where he is expected to remain for a few days of observation and rest. The Queen, 94, remains at Windsor.
According to the BBC, last month, the palace had announced that Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II had received their COVID-19 vaccination from a household doctor at Windsor Castle, shortly after the occasion of their 73rd wedding anniversary. The royal couple has been spending the coronavirus lockdown in England at Windsor Castle with a small household staff, nicknamed HMS Bubble.
Prince Philip was last hospitalised for a ‘pre-existing condition’ for four days back in 2019 and has been in the pink of health ever since, save for a few routine visits to the hospital.
Prince Philip, 99, married the then-Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and is the longest-serving royal consort in British history. He and the queen have four children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
