Bomb threat in US Supreme Court during Biden inauguration, all-clear given

The United States on Wednesday January 20 faced a bomb threat as lawmakers and prominent political leaders showed up for President-Elect Joe Biden’s inauguration in Washington, DC.

The Supreme Court building was closed to the public owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was not evacuated.

“The Court received a bomb threat, the building and grounds were checked out, and the building is not being evacuated,” a spokesperson for the Supreme Court said in a statement.

The situation soon returned to normal. However, an increased presence of the National Guard was seen at the court.

25,000 troops have been deployed in Washington, DC as part of the security arrangements for the Presidential inauguration.
