DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comments about eradicating Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) and equating the religion to mosquitoes, dengue, malaria, and corona has set off a huge political storm across the country.
Speaking at an event organized by Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers & Artists Association, Udhayanidhi Stalin said “The title of this conference has been excellently coined. You’ve named it as ‘Abolish Sanatanam Conference’ and not ‘Oppose Sanatanam Conference’, so my best wishes to that.”
He further said “Mosquitoes, dengue, flu, malaria, corona – we should not oppose these things. They’ve to be eradicated completely. Same is the case with Santanam (Hinduism). Our first work should be to abolish/eradicate Sanatanam instead of opposing it. So, my appreciations to you all for giving an apt title to the meeting.”
Ironically, the meeting was also attended by Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister PK Sekarbabu.
In Tamil Nadu, the BJP has upped the ante on the DMK for spewing hate on a religious community. On 3 September 2023, BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai condemning the DMK Minister said “Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin and all DMK people have to understand. Mughals tried, they couldn’t do it. East India Company tried, they couldn’t do it. The Christian Missionaries who came only to southern part of India, specifically to Tirunelveli, to parts of Kanchipuram, Chennai. They tried their best in the late 1800s, they couldn’t abolish it. Who is Udhayanidhi Stalin to abolish Sanatana Dharma? It can never be abolished. It only shows that this (state) government is essentially anti-Hindu.”
Now, the BJP Tamil Nadu head has demanded the resignation of HR&CE Minister Sekar Babu for participating in the anti-Hindu event.
“In the meeting on Eradication of Sanatana Dharma, DK Leader Thiru K. Veeramani confirmed that Sanatana Dharma & Hindu Religion are the same. Later in the same meeting, Thiru @Udhaystalin asked for eradication of Sanatana dharma. TN’s HR&CE Minister Thiru @PKSekarbabu was in the stage & remained a mute spectator to this entire hate speech against Hindu Religion. He has lost moral right to continue as HR&CE Minister of the state & has to step down immediately.”, Annamalai said.
He further added that if the Sekarbabu doesn’t resign as HR&CE Minister before 10th September 2023, BJP cadres would gherao every HR&CE office in the state on 11th September including the head office in Chennai and continue the protest until he resigns.
