Grandson Of EVR’s Brother & Congress MLA EVKS Elangovan Makes Misogynist Comments About Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP’s H Raja Slams

Tamil Nadu BJP Coordinating Committee President H Raja strongly condemned Erode East Congress MLA EVKS Elangovan for his remarks during a press conference on 17 September 2024. Elangovan suggested that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman should exhibit “modesty and humility” solely because she is a woman. Raja criticized this statement as hypocritical, noting that while they claim to be champions of women’s empowerment in the spirit of E.V. Ramasamy, they express contempt for women in high positions. He called for an apology for this unacceptable behaviour.

During a press conference in Erode following the celebration of E.V. Ramasamy’s birth anniversary, Erode East Congress MLA EVKS Elangovan suggested that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman should “behave herself” simply because she is a woman. His comments were a response to the recent controversy surrounding a viral video of a confrontation between the owner of Sri Annapoorna Hotel, Srinivasan, and Sitharaman during a GST meeting. Rather than addressing the issue at hand, Elangovan chose to target her gender, further fueling the controversy.

EVKS Elangovan said, “When you are a minister, especially as a woman minister, you should have modesty and humility. Without any reaction on her face, she is sitting there like a stone. So, it shows that Nirmala Sitharaman doesn’t have a humanity that respects human beings.”

In response to this comment, Tamil Nadu BJP Coordinating Committee President H. Raja expressed his anger through his official X account, stating, “How did you, Mr. @EVKSElangovan, get the courage to say, “she should be modest because she is a woman minister”? You, who claim to be the grandson of Periyar, looking at Mrs. @nsitharaman, who was our country’s first Defense Minister and our current Union Finance Minister, and saying “women ministers need modesty and humility,” sheds light on your vileness towards women leaders.”

Whether abroad or at home, it has become a habit of Congressmen to insult our motherland and women and controversially criticize them constantly. Everyone knows it’s in your blood to criticize women at will uncivilly. Have you not come to your senses even after defaming the meeting of our Prime Minister of India and Mrs. Jayalalitha, who are inevitable great leaders in the history of politics and facing the wrath of the people of Tamil Nadu?” he added.

“Similarly, you are the one who, without sense, publicly criticized a woman deputy mayor of Salem, saying, “You are getting so beautiful,” when she came to congratulate you last year. Your short-sightedness in daring to criticize a woman minister in an important position in the central cabinet today in even the slightest disrespectful manner is highly objectionable. Thus, you, who cannot tolerate women being in power, are not fit for the political life that determines the rights of the people,” he further added.

“Therefore, it is only dignified for a senior political leader to apologize for your controversial criticism of our Union Finance Minister, who has constantly criticized women in an objectionable manner,” demanded an apology.
