The AIADMK IT Wing members staged a protest at the Express Avenue Mall in Royapettah, Chennai, holding banners with the slogan “Who is that sir?“ to draw attention to the recent sexual assault of a student on the Anna University campus and to criticize the Tamil Nadu government’s handling of the case.
The incident, in which a student was sexually assaulted on the Anna University campus, has shocked the nation. Following the victim’s complaint, the police arrested Gnanasekaran, a roadside biryani stall owner. However, the case’s leaked First Information Report (FIR) raised significant concerns. According to the FIR, the accused allegedly referred to someone as “Sir” during a phone conversation, prompting widespread speculation about the identity of this person.
The police have dismissed the significance of the term, claiming the accused’s mobile phone was on airplane mode during the assault.
The Madras High Court has also taken a strong stance, ordering an investigation by a special committee comprising three female IPS officers, directing the government to provide ₹25 lakh as compensation to the victim, and allowing for potential action against Chennai City Police Commissioner Arun for revealing details about the accused in a press conference.
AIADMK Protest
In response, AIADMK members have launched a campaign demanding answers. Posters with the slogan “Who is that sir?” have been plastered across several cities, including Chennai, Karur, Thanjavur, and Tirunelveli. The posters also feature hashtags like #SaveOurDaughters.
During the protest at Express Avenue Mall, AIADMK IT Wing members addressed the public, including women shoppers, to highlight their concerns about the incident and alleged lapses by the government. Videos of the demonstration are circulating widely on social media, drawing mixed reactions from the public.

BJP TN Chief Annamalai Appreciates ADMK Protest
BJP Tamil Nadu state president Annamalai lauded the AIADMK for its proactive stance in the Anna University sexual assault case. Referring to the party’s campaign slogan, “Who is that sir?” Annamalai praised their efforts, posting on his official X handle, “Politics can never be about one-upmanship on issues that affect a common man. Appreciate @AIADMKITWINGOFL for picking up this issue and asking an important question.“

Annamalai’s remarks come as AIADMK intensifies its campaign against the Tamil Nadu government, raising questions about the handling of the assault case and demanding justice for the victim.
It is noteworthy that Annamalai had publicly vowed not to wear shoes until the DMK government steps down. He removed his shoes during a press conference as a symbolic gesture, which has been met with mixed reactions from political leaders and the public. Annamalai also flogged himself over 6 times over the several crimes committed by the DMK government against the public in Tamil Nadu.
