Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary SG Suryah who was arrested for his statement against Madurai Communist Party of India (Marxist) MP Su Venkatesan has been granted bail.
In a scathing letter addressed to Madurai MP Su Venkatesan, SG Suryah had alleged that a hygiene worker died due to allergies in the body after a Communist party ward member named Viswanathan forced him to clean the drain.
SG Suryah was arrested on frivolous charges as he had mentioned Madurai instead of Cuddalore district while lambasting Communist MP Su Venkatesan.
He was placed under judicial remand till 1 July 2023 and a bail plea was moved in the Madurai court. The court heard the bail plea on 20 June 2023 following which the BJP leader was granted conditional bail by Madurai Judicial Magistrate dismissing the plea of the cybercrime police to interrogate Suryah in custody.
This is not the first time that the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu was made to bite dust by the courts.
In December 2021, the Madras High Court quashed the Goondas Act against Kishore following which he was released from prison.
Another popular DMK-critic YouTuber Maridhas who was arrested on December 9, 2021 was set free by the Madras High Court after it had quashed the FIRs registered against him.
In another instance YouTuber Karthik Gopinath was granted bail in a case relating to the money raised by him for renovating temples at Siruvachur.
